Bart Solazzo

December 29, 1929 — January 14, 2022

Bart Solazzo, 92, of Hollywood, Florida, formerly of Alpine, New Jersey, peacefully passed away on January 14, 2022. Born on December 29, 1929 to Mary and Joseph Solazzo of Brooklyn New York, he was the youngest of 3 children and the "baby brother" of Mario Solazzo and Josephine Celebre-Solazzo. He was happily married to Julie Mayer-Solazzo for 45 years until her passing in 2009.

No matter If you were family, friend, neighbor, customer, or just a business associate of Bart Solazzo, he was always called “Uncle Bart”, and he always took a great personal interest in you. He was a kind and thoughtful man and always put others before himself.

After growing up in Brooklyn, Bart followed his brother’s footsteps and entered the armed services where he was stationed in Germany in the early Fifties. Bart was an excellent photographer. The Army took notice, and he became a war photographer to the generals; his stories and adventures from those days came to life through his photographs which he loved to talk about until his last day.

Following his assignment, Bart returned to New York where he continued his education and started his professional career. His artistic talents did not go unnoticed and he landed major shoots with fashion models, actresses and actors, and other celebrities. He took great pride in being a fashion photographer for the Ladies Home Journal for a number of years. He later decided to join his brother in the Textile Industry where Uncle Bart built a successful embroidery and textile business of his own. During this time he fell in love with his future wife, Julie, a talented designer also working in the same industry where both remained active for over four decades.

Bart and Julie enjoyed to travel near and far, gardening, photography, gourmet cooking, and most of all entertaining both family and friends. Their Black Tie Christmas Eve parties filled with traditional Italian dishes are still to this day unforgettable!

All who knew Uncle Bart will remember these things with fondness, joy and lots of love. His support to others, his shoulder to lean on when you needed understanding, his compassion for others and selfless attitude shone in him until the twilight days of his life. He will be most remembered for his smile, his charm, his kindness, and always asking what he could do for others, rather than what they could do for him.

Uncle Bart is survived by his sister-in-law Margaret Solazzo and his nieces and nephews Barbara Gippetti-Celebre, Robert Celebre, Nicholas Solazzo, Nancy LeGrand-Solazzo, Christian Solazzo, Stephan Solazzo, Claudia Koenig-Solazzo and their families.

Uncle Bart will be sorely missed!
