Celeste M. Schettig

Celeste Marie Schettig was born September 21,1944 in New Rochelle, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ovide G. de St. Aubin, Jr. and Honoré de St. Aubin, her siblings, Corinne Shaw, Ovide E. de St. Aubin, and Nona O’Brien, and her beloved husband, Robert C. Schettig. She is also remembered with affection by her sister-in-law, Norma de St. Aubin, her cousin, Nora Costanza, her nieces and nephews, Lisa Spellman, Tam de St. Aubin, Denis de St. Aubin, Alyce Phillips, Corinne O’Brien Nelson, Richard O’Brien, Jr., and Kathy O’Brien, her dear friend and companion, Don Scott, and her faithful caregiver, Kuna Rajalingam and his family. She was raised alongside her beloved siblings in a family defined by loyalty, integrity, and faith. A woman of faith, Celeste’s life was guided by prayer, gratitude, and an abiding trust in God.

She attended The Ursuline School in New Rochelle and continued her studies at the College of New Rochelle before completing her professional education at Katherine Gibbs School in New York. Celeste had a love for music and was a supporter of The World Symphony in Miami. She and Bob loved historic preservation of architecture and were very involved in renovating the historic district of Key West in the early days.

Celeste was gracious and elegant in every setting. She delighted in cooking alongside Bob and welcoming friends into their home, where evenings were marked by warmth, hospitality, and genuine connection. Celeste loved to travel, especially Italy, where she also has a home. She moved through the world with quiet confidence and a steady presence that brought comfort to those around her. Celeste had no children, yet she remained deeply devoted to her nieces and nephews, lifelong friends, and all her loving animals.

Celeste will be remembered for her elegance, her steadfast character, and her quiet strength. The family would like to thank all of those who assisted her in the last few years at The Palace- Weston and the Catholic Hospice Inpatient Care Center at St. Catherine’s West Rehabilitation Hospital.
