Ft. Lauderdale – Christopher L. Jordan, 81, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2017 at his home, as a result of an inoperable brain tumor.
Born and raised in Fairport, New York, the son of Stanley and Lillian Jordan, Chris’s genuine connections and friendships endeared him to many people.
An American patriot, he served the United States Army during the Korean War. Afterwards, he attended the University of Tampa, graduating in 1962.
For his career, Chris spent 32 years as a manager and district manager for Morrison’s Cafeterias. He found great pride in providing high quality food, personable customer service, steady work for his employees, and having a good time while doing it all. Many people have come to know him from the years he spent managing the Morrison’s Cafeteria on Federal Highway in Ft. Lauderdale. He loved the restaurant business so much, following his retirement he managed a breakfast buffet in Yellowstone National Park for 5 summers.
A fun-loving, self-proclaimed jock, Chris lettered in all sports in high school. He rowed all through college. To the last days possible, he remained an avid golfer with a close group of friends, whose “guy time” and friendly competition were a bedrock of his life. Additionally, Chris enjoyed music and a good jitterbug on the dance floor. When asked his greatest achievement, he said it was learning to fly and owning his own plane.
In Chris’s final days he whispered, “I’ve had a good life.” What joy that we got to share in that good life with him! We will greatly miss Chris, Chrissy, Dad, Grandpa - a calm, steady rock in our lives, who loved unconditionally without expecting anything in return. He’ll always be in our hearts.
He leaves Ann, his wife of 31 years; his brothers and their wives Kip and Gerry Jordan, Don and Johnnie Jordan; his son and daughter-in-law Christopher Jr. and Margaret Jordan; his daughter Leslie Jordan; his step-daughters and their spouses Marianne Thomason, Jenn and Steve Brauner, Liz and Mike Silvestre; his 7 grandchildren with one great-grandchild on the way; close nephews and niece; a loving, extended family; and a life-long, faithful group of friends.
A celebration of his life will be held in Ft. Lauderdale at a later date, with a graveside service to be held in early summer near Rochester, New York.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that people make donations to Catholic Hospice, 14875 NW 77th Ave, Suite 100, Miami Lakes, FL 33014 or to their favorite charity.
