DOMITILA DE LEON SANCHEZ MUÑOZ MAY 2, 1936 - AUGUST 30, 2021
Domitila, 85, resident of Sunrise, Florida, passed away at her home on Monday, August 30, 2021 from complications related to Alzheimer’s.
Domitila is survived by her daughter Olga and husband Theodore; son Victor and wife Carlene; son Luis and wife JoAnn; daughter Evelyn; daughter Rosa and life partner Patricia; daughter Marta and husband Miguel,18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fernando Sierra, in 2007 and her son, Eduardo in 2017, her grandson Julio Angel and her granddaughter Vanessa. She also leaves behind her angel caregiver Maria.
Domitila was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on May 2, 1936 to parents Valentin De Leon and Jacinta Sanchez. At 15 years old, she migrated to Chicago. Throughout those years she was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother having given birth to her seven children and lived there until the age of 52 when she moved to sunny South Florida enjoying her Senior years. She had a tremendous love for her family and was a devoted Catholic and member of "All Saints Catholic Church" and sang in the church choir. Domitila loved music, dancing and playing the piano, was very creative and an avid crafter. She was quite the entertainer and loved to make others laugh.
She lost her 11 year battle with Alzheimer’s, but through it all her family greatly cherished the time they had with her and she will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Monday, September 13, 2021 from 10 AM to 2 PM. Final resting place will be at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
