Coconut Creek

Edward Renzi, Jr., affectionately known as “Ed” or “Eddie,” passed away in Margate, Florida on May 5, 2025, at the age of 75. Ed was born January 2, 1950, in Providence, Rhode Island to Edward Renzi, Sr. and Frances Calabria Renzi. Ed’s parents moved the family down to South Florida in 1957. Ed graduated from Chaminade Catholic High School in Hollywood, Florida, where he played varsity football and tennis. He then attended the University of South Florida (USF). He was motivated in school by his fear of being drafted into the military during the Vietnam War, but luckily his draft number was never called. He was able to earn an undergraduate degree in Sociology. He even went on to earn a master’s degree in film from USF as well.

While in school, Ed worked summers in the construction trade, eventually focusing on electrical work. After graduating from school, Ed continued to work as an electrician and obtained his Journeyman license. In studying for his license, he took several classes and bought books, but was not satisfied with either. Thinking he could do better, Ed ended up teaching his first class in 1980 and developed his own course materials and books. He eventually obtained his Master Electrician license and also began to regularly teach electrical classes at Nova’s Adult Education School. Ed started teaching at the Associated Builders & Contractors Institute in 2004. He adored his students and took great joy in helping them hone their trade and pass the Journeyman and Masters electrical licensing examinations. He continued passionately teaching until his passing.

Ed found great meaning in being a father. He and his son, Jeffrey, enjoyed building model rockets, going to movies, and playing sports. They also attended a number of sporting events together, including several national championships for the University of Miami and game 7 for the Marlins’ first World Series title!

Ed was interested in space and science fiction, a huge fan of Carl Sagan, and Isaac Asimov. His eclectic music interests included King Crimson, Gentle Giant, and Frank Zappa.

Ed is survived by his sister, Jacqueline Levin (husband Norman); son, Jeffrey Renzi (wife Danielle); two grandchildren, Jackson and Ella Renzi; niece, Kimberly Berger (husband Michael); and nephew Josh Levin (wife Chelsea). Ed was married twice, and is survived by his ex-wives Lauri Tillman and Mirian Renzi.

A service celebrating Ed’s life will be held May 29, 2025, from 6:30-8p at Serenity Funeral Home, 1450 State Road 7, North Lauderdale, FL. Prior to the service, Ed’s family will gather and visit with friends and guests from 5:30-6:30p. It was Ed’s wish that attendees of the service be given an opportunity to share memories, stories, or a few words. In keeping with these wishes, the family encourages any willing guests to speak at a given time during the service. A private entombment service for family will take place May 30, 2025.
