In Loving Memory of Jennifer Hernandez
Jennifer, a devoted mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 9,2026, at the age of 60.
To know my mom was to know someone who loved deeply, fiercely, and selflessly. She spent her life putting the people she loved before herself and that was simply who she was. She had a heart that always made room for other people, and she never stopped caring about the people she loved. She gave so much of her time and energy to make sure the people around her were okay and had what they needed. She loved deeply, but more importantly, she showed that love through everything she did.
There were many sides to my mom, and she was never afraid to be completely herself. She could be difficult, stubborn, outspoken, and had absolutely no filter. She said exactly what was on her mind, whether you were ready to hear it or not. But she was also incredibly funny. She had a way with words that could make people laugh, sometimes without even meaning to. Her personality, her sense of humor, and the things she would say are some of the little pieces of her that we hope we never forget..
Behind all of that was a woman whose heart was bigger than anything else. Her love was not always easy, but it was constant.
One of the greatest gifts my mom gave me was the kind of relationship where I could always be honest with her. I could tell her the truth. I could confide in her. I could talk to her about anything without having to pretend to be someone I wasn’t. Not everyone gets to have that kind of relationship with their mother, and I will always be grateful that I did.
It is hard to think about how much my mom put aside for herself throughout her life. She spent so much of her time caring for her family and making sure everyone else was okay that she rarely had the chance to focus on her own dreams, needs, or happiness. She deserved the opportunity to experience more, to enjoy life, and to do the things that brought her joy. Instead, she continually put the people she loved first and gave so much of herself to us.
One of my greatest regrets will always be wishing I had been there more for her, wishing we had more time together, and wishing I could have given back to her even a fraction of what she gave to me.
But I hope she knew.
I hope she knew that becoming a mother helped me understand her in a deeper way than I ever had before. I began to recognize the sacrifices she made, the difficult choices she faced, and the love behind all the ways she cared for us. I hope she knew that every sacrifice mattered.
Most of all, I hope she knew how deeply she was loved.
My mom dedicated her life to being a mother, and there is no greater part of her legacy than the children she loved so fiercely. Her life may not have been filled with all the things she deserved for herself, but it was filled with love, sacrifice, laughter, strength, and devotion to her family.
Mom, everything you gave us will stay with us. Your kindness, your strength, your humor, your stubbornness, and the love you gave so freely will live on through your children, your family, and all the people whose lives you touched.
You spent your life making sure we were okay.
Now you can rest, Mom. We’ll be okay.
I love you and I will carry you with me for the rest of my life.
