It is an understatement to just say that John was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son and friend. He was preceded in death by Alex and Rosalind Rebello (parents); Sabastian, Angelo, Annie, Michael, Rozario and Eva (siblings). He is survived by his bride of 54 years, Samira; daughter, Vanessa (Matthew); granddaughter, Veronica; and his brother, Augustine Rebello.
John was prolific in his medical research, discovery and application helping countless Hepatitis, Interferon, and allergy patients from around the world live healthier, quality lives. He developed an allergy test that revolutionized the way patients were tested. Medical doctors around the world sent samples to his lab to aide them in patient care. He was a teacher both at the university level and at home.
His talents did not only apply to the academic side but in athletics, as well. He was an Olympic-level athlete in field hockey but gave up the chance to be on the world-stage in the mid-1960’s to get a Master’s in Microbiology and Immunology and a PhD in Biochemistry. However he coached at the collegiate level (women’s field hockey) and later youth (girls soccer).
God gave him so many talents and he did not squander them. He enjoyed the adult choir with his lovely tenor voice for over 40 years along side his wife. We fondly cherish him singing “O Holy Night” at midnight mass for many years.
He is also known for his love of dancing, cooking, gardening and traveling the world with his wife as well as tennis in the local community. His beautiful soul is fondly remembered. We rejoice at all he taught us, the joy he brought us and the love he shared with us.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 22, 2021 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, located at
200 N University Dr, Plantation, FL 33324.
