Jorge Masihy Duery, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and true original, passed away on April 12 at the age of 84.
Jorge was born in Rengo, Chile, on April 25, 1941. Due to the unpredictability of the times, his birth was not officially registered until August 9th, giving his family a joyful reason to celebrate him twice each year.
From a young age, his creativity, curiosity, and adventurous spirit set him apart, traits that would shape the remarkable man he became.
An innovator ahead of his time, Jorge had a lifelong passion for technology, science, and problem solving. His ingenuity led him to develop and patent systems to recover precious metals, launching a successful career in gold refining and mining ventures. Earlier in life, he worked in his family’s business in Santiago before courageously moving his family to the United States in 1980 in search of greater opportunity, where his determination and resilience carried them forward.
Jorge was also a true outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and hunting, but above all, he loved skiing. On the slopes, he seemed to glide effortlessly over the snow, a reflection of the energy, grace, and joy he brought to everything he did.
Above all else, his greatest passion was his family. A devoted father to his five children and a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild, he found his deepest happiness in being surrounded by those he loved. He delighted in teaching, guiding, and sharing life’s joys with his children and grandchildren, leaving them with lessons, laughter, and lasting memories. To them, he was a constant source of love, humor, and wisdom.
Jorge had a rare gift for connecting with people. Warm, friendly, and endlessly optimistic, he never met a stranger, only future friends. Whether through a kind word, a quick joke, or a welcoming smile, he made everyone feel seen, valued, and at home. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A man of deep and unwavering faith, Jorge was an active member of his church, Saint Boniface, and part of the Emaus group.
He is survived by his three siblings, five children, eleven grandchildren, and his great grandchild, Santi, who brought him tremendous joy and pride. He now joins his beloved wife, Myriam, his partner of almost 57 years, who passed away seven years ago, a reunion that brings comfort to those who loved them both.
Jorge will be deeply missed and forever cherished. His spirit lives on in the family he built, the lives he touched, and the memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles for generations to come.
