We lost Josephine Driscoll Howard, 85, of Coconut Creek, Florida, on December 24, 2025. Born in Dunbar, WV, in 1940, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Horace LaVene Howard. She passed away peacefully and was surrounded by the people who love her the most.
She is survived by her daughter, Jolene Howard, her son-in-law Brian Kennedy, and her granddaughter, Astrid; her brother, Fr. Sam Driscoll; her sister-in-law, Patsey Adams, and her husband Ken; and her cherished nieces and nephews.
Known as Jo to most adults and Mrs. Howard to an uncountable number of students, she was the Guidance Director at Pompano Beach Middle School for 30 years. She earned her B.A. at Barry College and her M.A. at Florida Atlantic University. In her retirement, she spent several years working part-time at Falcon Cove Middle in the guidance department as a counselor. She was a private pilot, an avid fisher, an orchid-whisperer, a beach lover, an easy traveler, and a beloved neighbor.
Jo was steadiness and spark, a quiet soul with a wild heart, and an excellent listener. She was kind without question, fiercely independent, generous, and incredibly patient. She lived with curiosity, was soft in word, and strong in will.
She is dearly missed by her family and friends.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated with the following readings: Wisdom 3:1-9 Psalm 103:8, 10, 13-14 1 Corinthians 13:1-8, 13 Matthew 11:25-30.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree in her memory.
