Lourdes Llanes Rodriguez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and matriarch, passed away on August 19, 2025 at 5:20pm surrounded by her family.

Lourdes was born on March 31, 1933, in Pinar del Río, Cuba, to Juana and Agustín Rodriguez. She grew up in pre-Castro Cuba, where she cherished her childhood alongside her sisters Cuca and Olga, and her brothers Tino and Rigo. Life in the Cuban countryside was filled with joy, family, and tradition. It was there that she met the love of her life, Jesús María Llanes. Their youthful romance blossomed into a lifelong union, and in 1956, they were married. Together they welcomed three children: Jesús, Roberto, and Lourdes.

When the communist revolution forced many Cuban families to leave, Lourdes and her young family sought refuge in Spain, where they embraced the Spanish culture and built new opportunities. In time, they immigrated to the United States, settling in New York.

Lourdes devoted herself to being a loving wife and nurturing mother, creating a home where her children thrived alongside her extended family. She loved being close to her sisters and nieces, Olguita and Diana, whom she cared for as daughters of her own.As her children grew, pursued their education, and eventually relocated to Florida, Lourdes and Jesús chose to move closer to them. This new chapter brought Lourdes one of her greatest joys—becoming a grandmother. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren: Michelle, Lauren, Yvette, Cristina, Matthew, and Gabriela . Family was always at the center of her life, and her love knew no bounds.

Lourdes flourished in Florida, surrounded by the people she adored most. She never missed an opportunity to be present in her grandchildren’s lives and became the soul of her family. Known for her steady temperament, deep devotion, and unwavering loyalty, she was an example of unconditional love and selflessness to all who knew her. Even in her later years, she took pride in her elegant appearance, always dressing impeccably and carrying herself with grace.

She loved the tradition of Jesus bringing her Cuban coffee and reading the newspaper with him every morning. She taught herself to read in English. Throughout her life, she loved playing dominoes, always beating the rest of us, especially Pipo!

Mima leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and family. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, a caring mother, and a treasured grandmother and great grandmother to Maxwell! To her family, she was and always will be “Abuela A” and Mima to her kids.

Heaven has gained a beautiful soul; may she rest in everlasting peace.
