Pansy Pearl Dacosta-Gibson, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 83 years old.
Born in Manchester, Jamaica, to Roland and Violet Dacosta, Pansy was the fourth eldest of eight children. As the daughter of a pastor, faith and church played a central role in her upbringing and remained a guiding force throughout her life. After graduating from Merl Grove High School in Kingston, Jamaica, she began working for Appliance Traders Jamaica Ltd., where her remarkable attention to detail and strong work ethic made her a valued member of the company.
During her marriage to her first husband, Wayne Hew, with whom she shared five children, she devoted herself to raising her family. She later married Joel Gibson, also known as Joe Gibbs, and helped manage Joe Gibbs Records & Recording Studio, where her dedication and organizational skills continued to shine.
In 1984, Pansy migrated to the United States, where she attended Broward Community College and earned her Associate Degree in Nursing. She later successfully passed her state board examinations to become a registered nurse, a milestone that reflected her determination and perseverance. She dedicated many years to private nursing care before continuing her career at both Florida Medical Center and Holy Cross Hospital, where she compassionately cared for countless patients and families.
Pansy was known for her unwavering faith, resilience, kindness, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose home was always open to family, friends, and visitors from Jamaica. She lived a life defined by strength, generosity, and selflessness, always willing to help those she loved whenever they were in need.
She is lovingly survived by her seven children: Michael (Mickey), Gary, Wayne (Richard), Mark, Shelley, Gregory, and Stephen; her 12 grandchildren and cherished great-granddaughter, Savannah; her sisters, Hermine (Min), Molly (Pam), and Lena (Betty); her brother, Anthony (Tony); her sister-in-law, Charmaine; her daughters-in-law, Gisele and Valerie; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on through the values she instilled in her family: love, perseverance, kindness, faith, and unity.
A celebration of Pansy's life will be held on May 22, 2026, at Church by the Glades. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of her life and love that knew no limits.
“Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
