Obituary

Robert Jones, Jr., 85, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Trustbridge Boca Care Center, Boca Raton, Florida.

Robert was born to Robert, Sr., and Naomi Jones (nee Buford) on September 26, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama. Robert was the eldest of five siblings. The family eventually moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1941.

Robert was married on October 10, 1964, to Carol Sue Johnson in Cleveland, Ohio. Their only child, daughter, Constance RaShelle Jones-Samuels, was born to them on October 9, 1967, as their delightful third anniversary present. Robert and Carol lived in Cleveland, Ohio, until 1975, when the warm climes of South Florida lured both Robert and Carol to relocate. Carol was first to obtained her transfer in 1975 to Addressograph Multigraph Corporation in Miami, Florida. In 1976, Robert soon followed with his transfer to the US Postal Service in Miami Florida.

Robert began his working career with the US Postal Service, on September, 1960, starting first in Cleveland, Ohio, unloading postal trucks, then as a letter carrier. Following two years in the US Army, Robert returned to the Cleveland Postal Service, as a Special Delivery Messenger. Later, he transferred to the Maintenance Craft as a Mail Processing Equipment Mechanic (MPE). In May, 1976, Robert obtained his transfer, first to the Miami Biscayne Annex and finally, to the Miami General Mail Facility (GMF).

He had fond memories of being assigned to an overhaul team that traveled to Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana to install Letter Sorting Machines (LSMs). He continued his postal career until he retired on February, 2020, as an Electronic Technician (ET), just eight months short of his 60th anniversary with the Post office. He enjoyed working in the Maintenance Craft, troubleshooting and fixing the various mail processing machinery. Robert was best known for his easy-going ways and was well liked and respected among his supervisors and fellow co-workers.

Robert was asked on his 50th anniversary, what was his secret to postal longevity? He replied: “Keeping a positive attitude and taking pride in your work.” He further stated, “I encourage today’s employees to learn as much as there is to know about their job to help the Postal Service business for many years to come.”

Robert enjoyed in his younger years doing photography, playing guitar, making house repairs for his home and others, and repairing cars.

Robert is survived by his wife of 61 year, Carol Sue Jones (nee Johnson), One daughter, Constance RaShelle Jones-Samuels (Coral Spring, FL); three Grandchildren: Cameron T. Samuels; Sheldon A. Samuels; and Chante L. Samuels (all of Coral Springs, FL); Sister, Barbara Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio); Brother, Alvin Jones (Cleveland, Ohio); (Sister) Chris Benford (Cleveland, Ohio); Brother-in-Law, Edwin Blanchard, (Goodyear, Arizona) and a host of nephews and nieces, extended family members, and dear friends.

Robert was preceded in death by: Father, Robert Jones, Sr., Mother, Naomi Jones (nee Buford) and Sister, Darnell Blanchard (nee, Jones).

Robert professed his dedication of his life to his God, Jehovah on December 14, 2025. He had a profound belief in God’s Word the Holy Scriptures, and the many promises it will bring about through the resurrection hope cited in John 5:28, 29 and John 11:24-27. After he retired from the Post Office in February of 2020, Robert started faithfully attending the mid-week Life and Ministry Meeting and the Weekend Public Talk and Watchtower meetings on Zoom. Although he was bedridden for almost two years at Sunshine Assisted Living Facility, Coral Springs, FL, Robert witnessed by phone and in person to family and friends and to those who visited him at the facility. When he finally became unable to place himself on Zoom, he instructed the facility staff to awaken him should he be asleep and to put him on Zoom in time for his meetings. Some of the songs Robert loved was the Temptations Song “My Girl:” However, his most favorite Bible based song was “Just Around the Corner”.

Robert will be deeply missed by all of us. However, we are comforted with knowledge that he is in Jehovah’s memory, and that he is waiting for the “real life” that Jehovah has promised in the near future on a paradise earth, Rev 21:3, 4.
