Roberto Díaz passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born on April 19, 1951, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Roberto was the son of Isabel and Efraín Díaz.
A self-taught English speaker, Roberto studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Teaching English Literature in 1973. In 1975, Roberto became the youngest director of a Berlitz language school at the age of 24. Tired of grading papers and preparing lesson plans, Roberto decided to apply for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After successfully completing his training at Quantico, he was assigned to the Miami office in 1978 where he worked on narcotics and drug trafficking cases. In preparation for raising a teenager, he switched to the espionage squad following the birth of his son Roberto Efraín. After serving in the FBI for 29 years, he retired at the ripe age of 57. With ample time on his hands, he indulged in his favorite hobbies: reading books, watching Netflix, driving his Corvette to the beach, and being a father.
A Florida resident for almost 50 years, Roberto built his life in south Florida. In 1993, he married the love of his life Olga and in 1995, they welcomed their son Roberto Efraín. Although their marriage ended in 2005, their friendship endured. Roberto was a person who loved to talk to anyone willing to listen (and even those unwilling). His outgoing personality helped him build numerous friendships over the years, many from his time at the FBI, and just as many from his time at Sedano's. Besides being a talker, Roberto was also an incredibly generous person. To the best of his ability, he supported his family and friends to ensure that they never lacked. Roberto showed his affection for those in his life through his generosity, wanting to improve the lives of those he cared about. For some, these acts of kindness was life-changing.
No matter where they are in the world, Roberto cherished his family. He will be remembered by his son, Roberto Efraín Díaz, PhD of Pembroke Pines, Florida; his ex-wife, Olga Salazar, of Bogotá, Colombia; and his siblings, Julia Elena Díaz, Luís Antonio Díaz, Wanda Díaz, and Mildred Díaz of Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Roberto was preceded in death by his parents, Isabel Jiménez Rosado and Efraín Díaz Cordero.
His kindness and generosity impacted far more people than those within his immediate family. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, extended family members, longtime friends, and all those fortunate enough to know him.
A funeral service celebrating Roberto's life will be held at Serenity Funeral Home & Cremation in North Lauderdale, Florida, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 5:00 P.M. Family and friends are invited to gather together to honor Roberto, celebrate his life, and share in a time of remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Roberto's memory to the American Cancer Society, whose mission is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.
