Obituary

Our dear Sharon DaSilva Straker came into this world on August 15, 1957, in Dubois Village, St. Vincent, to her loving parents Sylvia Neverson Straker and John Straker. She grew up in Dubois, went to Buccament Government School, attended Bishop College High School in Kingstown, and later studied at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.

As a young woman, Sharon started teaching at Buccament Government School in the late 70s, working with primary school students. In 1979, she packed up and headed to the United States with her siblings, settling in Boston, MA. She worked her way through jobs at the Lenox Hotel and later at Prudential Insurance, doing what she had to do to build a life in a new place.

On August 14, 1982, she married Bernard DaSilva and celebrated her wedding back home in St. Vincent. She welcomed her only child, Sheraime Clarke, on August 31, 1985, in Boston,MA. Sharon later built a life in Brockton, MA, and worked as a supervisor at the Registry of Motor Vehicles until she retired in 2001.

After her divorce, Sharon moved to Apopka, FL with her daughter to start fresh. She bought her first home, tried new retail business ventures, sold real estate, and even built her dream home in Windermere, FL. She had an eye for beauty and detail — she loved interior home decorating, fashion, sewing and tailoring garments, and gardening. She was stylish, creative, loved to dance, funny and always had a joke ready. She was strong, fearless, resilient, and deeply rooted in her love for God.

In 2007, she moved to Fort Lauderdale to be close to her daughter and family, where she lived a quiet and peaceful life. Her grandchildren, Skye and Laike, were her heart. She adored them, cared for them, and made sure their childhood was filled with joy and love.

She passed away peacefully at her home on May 3, 2026, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the age of 68.

She leaves behind her daughter Sheraime Clarke, her precious grandchildren Skye and Laike Clarke, son‑in‑law Desmond Clarke, twenty‑three siblings, and a host of cherished family members and friends.

Though she is no longer physically with us, her spirit lives on in the beauty she created, the laughter she shared, and the love she poured into her family. May she rest peacefully in God’s eternal care.
