It is with heavy, heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Yanic Philoctete Laurent.
Born on September 25, 1948 in Jeremie, Haiti, she is the daughter of Eliane Philoctete and Dr. Louis Laurent. She spent her childhood in Jeremie, before settling in Port-au-Prince where she finished her studies. There, along with her dear friend Virlaine, she founded ITBAM, a professional school for young adults. She accompanied a great number of them on their journey to cosmetology, culinary art, and introduction to computer science. She never turned down any assistance to her students, especially those with financial restraints. She treated everyone with respect and dignity. For a while she also worked at "Feed the Children" travelling to many provinces, bringing care to some less fortunate children.
Forced by the devastation of the Earthquake of 2010, Yanic retired and moved to South Florida to join her life partner Mario Brierre, her children and grandchildren. Here, as a devoted catholic, she joined the Church of St Malachy where she gave her time and talent to the youth group and choir. Yanic was a caring and devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend.
She died on April 25, 2025 after a long illness valiantly fought not alone, but with the love and care of her children, Son-in-law Haydn Holly, Franck D. Turenne and her Church community, family and friends. She is survived by her children, Cassandra, Nathalie, Danaë, her grandchildren, Ryan, Leah, Leanna and Liam, her adoptive children and grandchildren Dayana Brown, Klebert Alexandre, Angie and Tyler. She will be missed by her loving family: Philoctete, Laurent, Holly, Brierre, Boubert, Aarons, Fleury, Candy-Castro, Florestal, Duvilaire, Titus Apollon, Labossiere, Chassagne, Vilaire, St. Louis, Bordes, Jocelyn, Garnier, her Church community and her friends. May the Virgin Mary whom she venerated deeply accompany her to our Almighty Father.
